2010 YFVA State Tour

The 8th Annual State Young Farmer Field Day was held Tuesday, July 27, 2010 in the Bridgewater/Dayton area of Rockingham County. The day began at 8:45 a.m. with registration and ended about at about 3:30 p.m. About 50 Young Farmer members, guests and their families attended. Farm Credit sponsored lunch for each tour participant at the Shenandoah Valley Produce Auction (Dry River café). Our first stop was Dynamic Aviation, a local airport in Bridgewater. The group walked through most of the work bays, shops and saw many of the planes and runway. At the next stop, Shenandoah Valley Produce Auction, the auction was in progress, so everyone got to see the huge variety of produce (berries, eggs, peaches, sweet corn, etc.) and flowers sold and the large drive thru sales barn. After lunch at the auction, the group headed by school bus to the third stop, White Wave Foods, the old Shenandoah’s Pride milk plant in Mount Crawford. There was a new fruit juice product on the line. Bottles were labeled, filled and sealed on the conveyer belts and everyone was offered one to sample at the conclusion of the tour. Of course, folks loved modeling their hair nets, beard nets, and some protective clothing. It was a perfect day for a tour and many thanks go to Jeremy Will, Kevin Driver and the rest of the Turner Ashby Young Farmers involved in hosting a great tour!!
