January 20-22, 2012 in WYTHEVILLE
This year’s convention will be held at the Comfort Suites hotel, I-77, at Exit 41. The hotel has an indoor heated pool. Members and guests from across the State will be participating in contests, attending tours, and having fun at the awards banquet and auction. The opening banquet will be on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the hotel. Following that meal, everyone is invited to the hospitality suite for the President’s reception and State officer interviews will also be conducted that evening.
On Saturday, there will be tours to Cassell Horned Dorsets sheep farm, Crowgey Dairy and West Wind Farm winery. The annual business session will follow the tours along with the awards banquet at 6:30 p.m. D.J. Earl Brown will join us again for entertainment after both auctions. Don’t forget about the tractor lease to be auctioned off also! Sunday morning will begin with a breakfast buffet followed by an inspirational message and second business/awards session before adjournment.
The Young Farmers of Virginia has a form on official YFV letterhead to aid in acquiring door prize and auction donations. This form includes our Federal Tax I.D. Number, dates and location of the convention and thanks the sponsor for their support. Award Applications (Corn/Soybean Growing, Outstanding Young Farmer, Farm and Home Safety, Agricultural Stewardship, Membership Development, etc.) are DUE Saturday, December 10th (no later than Dec. 16th!) They may be found on the website—www.vayoungfarmer.org or in the VA Agricultural Curriculum Guide for Continuing Education. The Registration Form for the 2012 State Convention is enclosed in this newsletter. Be sure to post it on the refrigerator or somewhere handy so you don’t forget to register and reserve a hotel room by the January 6th deadline. Join us and bring a friend!
Consider being a part of the State Officer Team. Don’t forget to bring donated auction items and/or door prizes with you and try to win a cash award by participating in the agriculture stewardship or agribusiness contest!
